Balkan Association for Sustainable Energy (BASE) is a not-for-profit alliance founded to unify the fragmented energy sector of the Western Balkans under a common sustainable vision. BASE brings together renewable energy developers, policymakers, academics, and youth advocates to accelerate our region’s transition to a carbon-neutral future.
BASE’s mission is to architect the region’s renewable energy future. We strive to accelerate the shift to a carbon-neutral economy by uniting diverse voices, industry, academia, government, and youth, into one powerful force for change. We work to dismantle barriers, foster cross-border cooperation, and fast-track the deployment of innovative technologies (solar, wind, green hydrogen, energy storage) so that the Balkans become a pillar of Europe’s sustainable energy landscape.
We envision a Western Balkans powered entirely by clean, sustainable resources. In our vision, energy independence drives shared prosperity, and protecting our natural heritage is paramount. The Balkans won’t just adopt green solutions but will innovate them, becoming a hub of sustainable technology for Europe. We foresee an interconnected energy network where green power flows freely across borders, creating jobs, reducing pollution, and securing a healthy future for the next generations.
BASE was founded in response to a defining challenge: the need for a unified sustainable energy vision across the Balkans.
Recognized by the Ministry of Justice of BiH, we began as a coalition of forward-thinking engineers, environmentalists, and policy experts determined to leapfrog the region towards green energy. From day one, BASE has embraced technological neutrality and innovation, championing solar and wind, as well as the transformative potential of green hydrogen and battery storage.
Today, under the leadership of President Arnes Biogradlija, BASE serves as a bridge between local realities and global ambitions. We have expanded our initiatives across borders, tackling shared challenges like energy security, pollution, and the circular economy. BASE’s journey is just beginning, and we welcome all who share our passion to join and shape the future with us.
